Notwithstanding the longest period of economic malaise in recent U.S. history, the Restructuring practices of many law firms and restructuring advisory firms are struggling to capitalize on what should be a fine market opportunity for their practices in this market segment. Too many practices are following approaches that have long served them well, but are not working as well in the current market.
Firm’s looking to improve their performance in this market segment will be hard pressed to find a consultant with more knowledge and experience in building market leading practices in Restructuring than that possessed by Dave Carpenter. Dave has more than twenty-five years of experience in the Restructuring market. Beyond an exceptional track record as a restructuring professional, he has been an advisor to leading law firms and advisory firms looking to improve their market position.
Dave is among the pioneers of the restructuring advisory field. After serving as head of workouts for a major bank, he was recruited by Coopers & Lybrand (now Pricewaterhouse Coopers) where he and his colleagues built one of the largest restructuring practices in the United States. Dave ultimately had national responsibility for the Financial Advisory Services practice which grew to over 700 professionals (including two hundred restructuring professionals) and—under his leadership—became the fifth line of business for Coopers.
Beyond his practice leadership role, he served as lead partner for some of Cooper’s largest restructuring assignments, including—for example—the Chapter 11 of Continental Airlines. He was active as a restructuring advisor to large debtors, creditors and institutional lenders in major cases through the United States. Through this work, Dave has worked alongside many of the leading bankruptcy/restructuring attorneys in the country.
With the formation in 1995 of his boutique consulting firm, Partners for Market Leadership, Dave became an advisor to firms looking to improve their position in this marketplace. His work moved from the front lines to an important role behind the scenes of guiding firms to improve market position and profitability of their practices. His behind the scenes work provides him with exceptional visibility on changing market dynamics.
Dave’s ongoing visibility and stature in this market segment is evidenced by his being chosen as one of the keynote speakers at the annual meeting of the Turnaround Management Association (“TMA”), of which he has been a long time member.
Dave is a graduate of Bucknell University (BS), Temple University (MBA), and Rutgers University (JD). For more than a decade, he has been recognized annually in Who’s Who in Finance, Who’s Who in Law, and Who’s Who in the World.
